Sometimes the real comes out of the failure of another effort. The idea that a bowl could be used to elicit a small prayer for peace when we ate kept coming into my thoughts. Sitting around the dining room table at Terry Schaefer's house, with Melony and Adam Lewis, brainstorming what universal saying that we could put in the bowl, Adam came up with "eat in peace".
We had bowls made to be gifted at our camp, The Peace Prayer Bowls Cafe at Burning Man 2007. We missed 2008, and gifted bowls again at Burning Man 2009. After being featured in Vegetarian Times for their November/December 2009 issue things began to take off. There are now thousands of people using the bowls. I thought it was time to share these bowls with you.
Burning Man, for those of you who may not know, is a "gifting" community: no bartering, trading or charging. There is something intrinsic about these bowls that made them a natural for gifting at Burning Man. This upcoming BM we hope to join Jim and Betty from the Tuna Guys and do a one day, large event under a bamboo pavilion.
